let's make a sock puppet

Yesterday Yumi hosted a puppet making session in her garden:

I won't show you my finished puppet as I set a sock puppet brief for miss stacey's summer school and the deadline isn't for another week and a half. I can tell you his name is Humphrey though.

talking of summer school....

Here's my entry for project two - a place where I'm happy.

It's by the seaside of course!
That is where I've been today, for a nice picnic with cucumber sandwiches & scones.
Jolly good.

Check out more entries by students here.

my week

Here are some bits & pieces to report from my week:

On Saturday my friend eleanor hosted a clothes swap party where we each took along some unwanted items of clothing and then had a rummage in the BIG pile that accumulated for some new bits. As you can see I came home with a few lovely pieces. I especially like the green/blue top & conveniently matching belt.

On Monday I sat down to watch a film and managed to cobble together this little fella:

The pattern is courtesy of Annalisa and as you can see my attempt doesn't look all that much like her example. I think he'll do though (and Derek mentioned that he reminds him of a certain someone mentioned in my previous post).

I went home to visit my family this week and my mum gave me this wonderful picnic basket:

I especially like the lining!

Oh, and last Friday I went round to Yumi's house for a mobile making evening. We had cookies & tea & smoothies and I even had a quick bounce on her TRAMPOLINE! so much fun.
I didn't get around to making a full mobile in the end but I did make a selection of origami birds & this paper ship:

Next week we are going to make sock puppets!!! I can hardly wait.

this is my most treasured childhood possession.

My most treasured possession when I was a younger (and something I'd still try to save if my house was on fire) is a small stuffed rabbit called Rabs. He can be spotted in almost half of the pictures of me as a child - it's kind of like playing where's wally while looking through the photo album.

I got him when I was a baby and we were inseparable for years. Unfortunately now we are living in different towns but it's nice to know that when I pop home to visit my parents he will be sitting patiently beside my bed.
I remember once I was on an outing to a national trust place, or somewhere similar, and I accidentally dropped him in a fish pond and the fish started nibbling on him! most traumatic. My dad had to fish him out and I remember being very upset.

At least he's ok now (if a little old and weathered).

i love pigeons

and i love this:

A hand sewn pin badge from Rita's Casbah.
Oh, how I want it!

view from my window

This evening I looked out of my window and saw so many seagulls circling in the sky.
I think it's a sign that it's going to rain soon (that is my assumption anyway).

In other news, today I swam in the sea for the first time this summer!
I think there'll be plenty more of that in the coming weeks.
So nice to live by the sea.

a mini festival

It's been a busy weekend around these parts. We held a mini glastonbury at our house (called glastoncrescy as we live on a crescent) so those of use that weren't going this year could watch the coverage and have that summer festival experience, (without the rain, mud & portaloos of course!)

It also gave us a chance to decorate the flat, and we went all out (angela even made a wigwam in the hallway!). Here are some pictures taken before it all kicked off:

Much better than the real thing i reckon!
