his and hers hats

Ben and I had a couple of festivals planned towards the end of the summer, and I know how cold it can be at night so I decided to make us a couple of cosy hats to keep our heads warm.

I only thought of this shortly before we were due to go to Green Man but luckily they take almost no time at all. I think I made each one in under a week, and enjoyed some garden knitting in the sunshine in the process.

It seemed a bit silly to be making woolly bobble hats at the beginning of August, but I think it was a good decision as it did get quite chilly at End of the Road.

They turned out really nicely. Very comfortable and stretchy. I will probably make some more for the winter months - I have a track record of losing hats so it'll be good to have some spares.

I don't normally post photos of myself on here, but here we are at End of the Road, wrapped up warm...

Luckily Ben wasn't too embarrassed that I'd made us matching hats.

Cold January evenings are best spent indoors making warm hats.
This week I've listened to this song many many times. It makes me feel like everything's ok.

bobble

I hit a wall with my planned sock making over the weekend - partly due to me buying the wrong weight of yarn, and partly because all the shops in Brighton seemed to be 'closed due to adverse weather conditions'.

I took this opportunity to make something to keep my head warm. My first bobble hat! You can find the pattern over at Ravelry. It only took me a day, and it has ear flaps for extra warmth.

I also think this was the first time I've ever made a bobble that hasn't fallen apart...

...yet.

snow & ice

I do like to be outside in the snow!
Although I slipped on the ice yesterday and landed on my bottom. Bad times.

hat party / party hats

We had a hat party at our flat this weekend.
A lot of people came. And everyone wore a hat!!!

Some of the highlights were: a very glittery crown, the enormous crocodile, a customized safety helmet, a clip-on pigeon, a ninja hat, 2 birds nests, 2 mice and a very impressive cloud.

I made a giraffe hat:


I kept it on nearly all night (which was quite a challenge as it was rather tall). I also made some rosettes to award to the best hats, and we had a ballot box so people could vote for the overall winner:


Other treats included jam tarts & hat shaped cheese straws, an amazing hat cake by Rosie, many hat jokes, and plenty of austin's pimm's and lemonade.

Now I think a long sleep is in order.
