sea shells and butterflies

Well, August slipped by in a flash. Not sure what happened there.

At the beginning of the month I took a trip to Oxford to listen to some nice music in a bedouin tent. While I was there I also paid a visit to the Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum.

I've been meaning to go on a trip there since I did my MA so it was nice to finally have a look at the collection. I found the mummified animals most interesting.

I went on a little outing to the Booth museum yesterday.
It's a peaceful place. I like the taxidermy.

Making

I went to the Power of Making exhibition at the V&A on Saturday. It's worth a visit!

My favourite things were the giant Aran knitted rug, the giant crocheted bear and the fingerprint gloves. I also liked the craft table where people were experimenting with using Woolfiller.

I like the idea of this very much, both for mending holes and for adding decoration to knitwear. I've ordered myself a sample pack so that I can try it out. Possibly on my new Aran wool cardigan.

I spent my August bank holiday in Berlin this year. A lovely city to visit.

My favourite day was Sunday when Yumi & I went drawing in the Museum für Naturkunde, and then we went to the Flohmarkt am Mauerpark and watched the Bearpit karaoke. It made me smile in a big way.

Yesterday Yumi and I went to the Brighton museum for a drawing afternoon.
There are lots of interesting artefacts there:

1. Stirrup cup - hare's head.
2. Vietnamese water-puppet
3. Cup modelled on the head of a bulldog.

At the weekend I went to London to celebrate George & Milkan's birthdays. We ate food at a lovely Turkish restaurant and visited the Hunterian museum and saw lots of specimens in jars.

I think this is a place you could spend all day drawing. Just make sure you're not feeling queasy before you go in.

My contribution to a giant game of memory that is being held at the V&A this Friday. Come along for some fun and games! I hope to make a fleeting visit.

a night at the museum

Last week I went to one of the Science Museum Lates and learnt how to make a whistle out of a carrot and a piece of parsnip.
I also found the unfinished note pictured above. I'm curious to know what the final sentence was going to say. Any suggestions?

bank holiday holiday

I love bank holidays, and this one was exceptionally wonderful.
I wish it didn't have to end.

Amongst many other treats we managed to squeeze in a bit of drawing at the Tate modern where there were some nice bank holiday events taking place (including this).

Good times!

study trip

On Monday I went to London to visit an inventions exhibition for my MA research which turned out to be half useful & half a waste of my pennies. I filled my day with other activities though to make the trip worth my while.

I did some drawing in the V&A, found a giant rhino costume, wrote a postcard, bought a skirt, hunted for a post box, joined the crowd outside covent garden tube station & waited for a friend, hunted a bit more for a post box & somewhere to eat, found a post box, went for mexican food, got some free seeds & ran to catch my train.

A good day.

ring ring

I'm going to visit brighton museum today. They have an exhibition on showcasing the little black dress through the ages - it sounds rather nice.
Hopefully I'll have some photos to share later on.
