watercolour

watercolour fish

Here's a shoal of watercolour fish I painted the other day.

I've decided I need to make a determined effort to make some more time for drawing and image-making, and as a start I have signed up to the 'Birds of Prey' wildlife drawing session in Brighton next month.

I'm pretty excited about meeting some falcons and hawks.

Watercolour dots. A mini series.

dots

I painted some watercolour postcards this week. I wanted to put some bright colours down on paper and didn't really have an idea of what I wanted it to look like.

I love the way watercolours change as they dry. The bold edges and the colour blending within the shapes leave me with a feeling of great satisfaction.

Does anyone want me to send them a postcard?

nest

bird

This week I have been having a spring clean - I've donated a nice big bag of goods to the charity shop and have de-cluttered my room.

Last night I turned the living room into a cosy nest for us to knit in. I think I might keep it that way for a few days. Snug.

windswept

waves

Today there were huge waves on the shore. I sat and watched them while I ate my lunch, and tried not to get houmous in my hair.

The wind also helped carry me home from work. Friendly weather.

tit for tat

Have a look at this lovely bird - it's the wonderful work of Richard Phoenix and there's plenty more where that came from.

I'm doing a printmakers trade-off with Rich at the moment. He kindly requested one of my lightbulb screenprints and I jumped at the chance to swap it for one of his pieces of work (I hear he's got some wonderful screenprints under his belt). As a taster he gave me this postcard of one of his oil paintings, which is pretty special in itself.

He has also done an amazing painting of Rosie which I hear he sold this weekend at one of the Artists Open Houses - great news!

distraction

Why is it so easy to create things when they aren't for my MA?

• A card for a friend's birthday.
• A painting of my mechanical bird.
• Some preparation for my screenprinting course.

Tonight I'll do work on inventions...

activity day

On Easter Sunday we had an egg painting activity hour and here are the results:

Clockwise from top left: Eggwina Curry by Danni, a Jackson Pollock egg by Tim, a proper gent by me & a pretty little bug by derek.

Good effort no?

Hope you all had a nice easter - I still have a chocolate bunny & kitten left to eat...which one first though? I can't decide.

pottery painting

Last week I went pottery painting for a friend's birthday and I just got my finished plate back.
It's not perfect but it came out better than my last pottery painting attempt and I'm quite looking forward to eating cheese and biscuits off it - yum yum yum.
