Postcard club

Oxalis Triangularis - postcard club

I recently joined in over at the Postcard Club. Here's my first swap with Ed Cheverton.

He sent me a collage play card, and I sent him a paper collage illustration of my favourite houseplant.

If anyone else wants to do a swap with me then do let me know - I really love sending and receiving nice things in the post!

Watercolour dots. A mini series.

dots

I painted some watercolour postcards this week. I wanted to put some bright colours down on paper and didn't really have an idea of what I wanted it to look like.

I love the way watercolours change as they dry. The bold edges and the colour blending within the shapes leave me with a feeling of great satisfaction.

Does anyone want me to send them a postcard?

hayfever face

Remember this postcard, which depicted what life would be like in our new house? Well, I've been watering my garden regularly and yesterday I spied the first hints of flowers growing!

They are still very small, but I thought them worthy of documentation so have painted them for Jill's postcard swap, which I am taking part in.

It'll fly off in the post to America tomorrow.

In other news, we drew countries for the World Cup sweepstake at work today and I got Greece. Apparently they aren't going to do so well, but my interest in the football has increased by about 101% now that there is something to play for, so that is a plus.

Greece to win! OPA!

quiet weekend

Sometimes it's quite nice not to do much at all.
This weekend I didn't really leave the house (apart from when I went to had to buy jaffa cakes from the corner shop).
On Saturday Rosie brought home a GIANT world map so we gathered together all our postcards and spent some of Sunday morning playing with little red dots and thread. It's looking good!
But we need more --> if you send us a postcard we'll be ever so pleased.

scrambled eggs

There's a lost seagull chick trapped on our roof at the moment. I've named him Basket.
He has spent the last 3 days squeaking and wandering around aimlessly, and yesterday I thought he had died but he was just having a nap in the sun.
Today I saw him trying to fly and now I have hopes that he may survive. I looked on the RSPB website and they recommended feeding lost chicks scrambled eggs. So that is what I've done.
And I just peeked out the window and he was gobbling it up.
I do like birds (even noisy seagulls).

through the letterbox

My postcard collection is growing fast (thanks to some very kind people) and I am running out of room on the boiler to pin them up. So now I have a plan...and a map (courtesy of The Guardian):

This world map is soon to be mounted on my kitchen wall so I can track the postcards I receive (with satisfying pins & bits of string). Though it has been pointed out that a lot of my postcards are sent from within the UK so I may need a separate map to plot those points - England is far too small in relation to the rest of the world. Though it seems to have been scaled up quite a bit on this map:

The hunt for a second map begins...
