south west coast

july 2013

Today we booked a cottage for a few days in Cornwall next month. If it's anything like the mini holiday we took last summer then I'll be very happy.

Oh, and we will have a pet cat for our short stay - what a treat!

eotr

end of the road

I went to End of the Road a couple of weekends ago. A lovely time as always!

Highlights included: David Byrne and St Vincent, Teleman, East India Youth, Belle & Sebastian, Jens Lekman and Tigercats. Oh, and Breakfast with the Inkspots. An early morning treat.

I guess that means autumn is drawing in now. I've already noticed leaves on the ground, and mince pies in the shops!

Good thing I've still got a summer holiday to look forward to.

warm days

summer in italy

Summer seems like such a long time ago now.
November is traditionally my least favourite month of the year.
Let's see how it goes...

living the dream

hove
heart
tomatoes

I'm really making the most of this lovely later summer weather. I've been paddling in the sea in my lunch breaks and have had a swim most evenings this week. I even had a quick dip this morning as I am off to London in a short while. An October swim!

My tomato plants have also been having a final flourish. I've been collecting handfuls of cherry tomatoes for my lunchbox each day this week.

I'm conscious that the weather is going to turn very autumnal and blustery soon so am soaking up every bit of sun.

wait for the summer

Latitude - WHAT A BLAST!
9.8 out of 10 I'd say.
Music, comedy, craft, dancing, exploring and laughing. Same again next year please.

Surprisingly, I've felt really relaxed this week, even though I've been working incredibly hard and rushing from place to place in between. I'm not even panicking that I haven't had enough time to organise all my work for the open house this weekend.

If you're in Worthing, then do pop along. And if not, have an amazing weekend!

let's swap

On Friday Yumi and I got our Fifty-Two artwork back and decided to do a mini swap on the beach. I ended up with this lovely picture of two seagulls which is now hanging above my desk. It's good to trade!

My brother suggested afterwards that we should maybe organise a BIG art swap on the beach, which is an idea I'm very keen on. I'm picturing a big meet up with picnic snacks and enough swapping so that everyone goes home with a new handmade treasure. Any takers?

I've just spent a large portion of the weekend on the beach which is truly a sign of summer being almost here. We also had the first barbecue of the year (or the decade as derek pointed out!). What a treat!

I think this may actually be my favourite time of year.

is it summer?

Today was the first day of British summertime, which is rather good news. Unfortunately I didn't manage to appreciate it as I was stuck inside all day showing people round the upcoming spare room in our flat.

I did, however, make a pile of origami boxes for an easter egg hunt we are planning, and also managed to break free in the evening to go to the pub quiz.

It was good, we came 3rd (one place better than last time) and won some breakaway biscuits! We almost managed to win as we were in joint first place before the last round. But alas, the quizmaster chose football and we only got 3 right.

Maybe next time...

f e s t i v a l

I'm going to beachdown this weekend.
I must make sure to pack the essentials: wellington boots, sunglasses & a box of wine. What more do I need?
This is my summer holiday so I hope the weather treats me well!

10 good things

the 10 best things about glastonbury

1. bjork & bright eyes & arcade fire (& shirley bassey)

2. being able to wear anything you like without feeling silly (bright orange rain poncho anyone?)

3. exploring the greenfields and disovering amazing things: an ark, seesaws, swinging chairs, giant wicker people...etc

4. lots of different food everywhere you turn: crepes & soup & garlic bread & liquorice & free hare krishna supper.

5. visiting the silent disco and taking your headphones off to hear everyone singing along to nothing.

6. crocheted granny blankets from the oxfam stall

7. watching people roll in the mud (but standing well out of reach)

8. trying to invent new dances where you don't need to move your feet as they are stuck in the mud.

9. everyone in the site cheering when the sun pops out for 5 minutes.

10. spending time with friends & not having to think about work or things that need doing all weekend.

bank

holiday

i hope everybody had a nice bank holiday weekend - i went to a steam fair!

it was like stepping back in time - there were lots of wonderful rides and a variety of animals around and about. i had a nice cream tea and a jolly good day out. it was also most pleasant to catch up with my friend emma who was down from cardiff for the weekend (i'll be seeing her again soon though at glastonbury - very excited about that!)

here are some nice pictures from our day at the fair:

^ on the carousel - i was riding a chicken.

^ the razzle dazzle - i really loooove the bright colours (i'd like to volunteer to help paint the rides).

^ me on the steam swings.

^ a very pretty horse.

unfortunately the BIG wheel was not there as it was being fixed (a bit of a worry) but i have a some pictures from a couple of years ago that i'd like to share:

^ the view from the top.

i also had my first barbeque of the year at the weekend (hooray to summer!)

here's hoping there are lots more to be had (and lots more pimms to go alongside!)

this week seems to be dragging a bit now. i don't know why as it is shorter than usual, but i've been work work working everyday (and night).
tomorrow i am off to the shops however, so there will surely be another post soon. i've also just done a swap with siming (foolily) so there will be some pictures of that along shortly.

until then, have a nice week/weekend.
