blanket

I've finally finished my crochet blanket. Three cheers and a pat and the back for me (it's only taken a year!)
Just in time for the freezing cold weather.

peas please

Sorry for the lack of updates lately - I've been quite snowed under with work & university. Will try to up the frequency of my posts from now on though.

I hope you're all looking forward to HALLOWEEN next week. I'm going to a pumpkin carving evening on Tuesday - should be good! (I might carve a pigeon into mine)

stitch 'n' beach

Stitch'n'beach is the name of the knitting group I recently set up for folks in Brighton. My friend Emily suggested the name as the original plan was to meet up on the beach and knit/crochet/get crafty. Unfortunately winter has set in now so the group has been moved inside (but I think the name still works as we are knitting in pubs & cafes that are very near to the beach!)

We had our first official meet-up on Tuesday and it went surprisingly well! We were spotted by a drinkin brighton representative who took our photo and offered to promote the group on their website - very kind indeed.

So if anyone is in the Brighton area and fancies joining in with a bit of knit & crochet then please get in touch!
We're planning to meet every fortnight and our next meet-up will be some time in national knitting week so we'll have to make it extra special.

something free

I read about this lovely site over on design freebies today - it's called Briar Press and they have loads of free letterpress ornaments for you all to download.

Very nice!

I downloaded a little owl and had a play around in photoshop:

I'm going to beachdown this weekend.
I must make sure to pack the essentials: wellington boots, sunglasses & a box of wine. What more do I need?
This is my summer holiday so I hope the weather treats me well!

the bees knees

On friday I went to visit the pleasure bus with Yumi and yes, we got our bees knees stickers:

It was definitely a worthwhile trip! It was ever so sunny as well.

In other news, I've sold 3 pigeons from my etsy shop. I might just have to make some more...

today was a good day for drawing.

The good thing about this bad weather is that it motivates me to stay indoors and work work work.
It has also just dawned on me about the small amount of time I have left before my MA hand-in in September. And in between now and then I have a great deal to do, including:
• having a break for this lovely festival.
• travelling back home to pick up my tent & other supplies for said festival.
• saying farewell to a friend who's moving up north.
• starting a new job!!!
• & having a lovely friend from wales come & visit.

Gosh! I need to get cracking. I will definitely work hard tomorrow. But first I will head down to the seafront with Yumi to visit the Pleasure Bus which is in Brighton for Friday & Saturday.
If you haven't heard of it then do go and check out the blog for more details. It's a gold campervan that doubles up as a Mobile Art Gallery (and shop). They are touring around the UK over the summer and aim to spread a happy summer glow wherever they go.

I'm keen to get one of their stickers:

Wish me luck! (& try and check it out if you can).

hello pigeon

guess who's in my shop now?

yes, that's it! some jolly pigeons.

h o o r a y !

AND it turns out this is my 200th post...can you believe it!
so to celebrate that fact and of course to celebrate the pigeons i'm going to give away one of the brood to the first person to comment saying something along the lines of 'yes, please!'.
jolly good!

gold

Yesterday we had something of a sewing evening at my friend Eleanor's house and I made this gold bow.
I haven't yet decided whether I want to make it into a hair clip or a brooch...but I do like it a lot!

this is...a work in progress

this is a work in progress:

(a wristband with a little pocket).

this is a work in progress:

(a seagull).

and this is STILL a work in progress:

(a crocheted blanket).

I seem to have a lot of half finished things on the go at the moment which is part of the reason I chose this topic for 'This is...' this week.
Thanks again to Angela for nominating me. I've been looking through other people's posts today and there is some great stuff going on! keep up the good work.

My entry to illustration friday this week.

an interesting find

The other day I picked up 2 bags of fabric via freecycle (my new addiction) and amongst all the scraps & nice grey fabric I found these animal shapes (along with their templates) that had been cut out for use in some kind of art and craft project.

I think it's a shame that they never got put to use but I really like the simple shapes (so maybe I'll sew them onto something one of these days). I wonder what I can get from freecycle next...

this is...my turn

I've been asked by angela if I would like to post the topic for 'This is' this week.
So last night I had a ponder about what I could choose and I've opted for:

this is... a work in progress

I love looking at pictures of what people are creating, and looking at the different stages in the making process, so please share your photos/drawings/etc.

How exciting - I'll make sure to post my entry by the end of the week! And you can check out more entries over here:

ps. I hope this topic hasn't been chosen before as I haven't been playing very long
